Starfish has been a Dunedin favourite for over 20 years, and in January 2026 it began it’s next chapter with new owners Sarah and Riki Flutey.
We’re a family-run café centred around connection, delicious food, and creating a space that feels warm, welcoming, and easy to enjoy.
Whether you’re catching up with friends, grabbing a quiet coffee, or treating yourself to something delicious, we want Starfish to be a place you can settle into and enjoy.
Our food is wholesome, tasty, and sometimes a little bit naughty. We focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients and love showcasing local producers and suppliers wherever we can.
Our menu is built around all-day brunch, fresh salads, and in-house baking, with plenty of options for different diets including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. Alongside that, you’ll find Supreme coffee, a selection of local Emerson’s beers, and wines chosen to suit any occasion.
What matters most to us is how you feel when you’re here. We take pride in creating a positive, welcoming environment, with a service style grounded in kindness and gratitude.
